A lot of people know I’m a total Stardoc junky. I proudly consider myself one of SL Viehl‘s (aka PBW aka Lynn Viehl) first stalker fans. Yeah, yeah, it might not be true, but I emailed her within a few weeks of Stardoc coming out. I don’t email authors. Or rather, back before I was pubbed, I didn’t really email authors. Just didn’t. At that point, I think I’d only emailed one other author-Nora Roberts.
I emailed, gushed, praised, etc. etc. And I’ve been loitering around wherever her work can be found ever since, used to routinely check her old site on Sff.net, reading all the short stories she’d put out. I remember the first Darkyn story-Alex and Cyprien when it was mostly just a novella. Have her old Gena Hale books, her Jessica Hall books…okay, you get the point right?
So I get this email. (warning… minor Crystal Healer spoilers below the cut…don’t read if you hate spoilers/haven’t read/etc)
Marcy emails me: (emails posted w/permission)
Might you have been the author who said that you loved Ms. Viehl’s Star Doc novels? I can’t decide whether to thank you for introduce me to a wonderful group of novels or not! Her books always end on a cliffhanger, which I can usually manage. I just finished Crystal Healer, one of my favorite stories in the series with a cliffhanger that almost killed me! I simply don’t know how I’m going to wait for her next book! If you didn’t recommend her and you like space opera, I recommend her!
Me:
I’m am the original Stardoc junky. 🙂 I’ve been stalking her since Stardoc first came out, I’m proud to say. And Crystal healer almost killed me. Seriously. I’m dying. Sigh.
Marcy:
Me too! What are we going to do until the next book is out? It will probably be a year! I just CAN’T wait to find out how Jarn left and Cherijo came back! Poor Duncan!
Me:
Hello, poor Cherijo. She loves him and she’s going to find out he’s in love with the other ‘self’ that was her for a while. Her last thoughts were of him and Marel. Sigh. That woman just loves to torture her characters and her readers.
Marcy:
Too true! *sigh*
Me:
Gee…. would you mind if i share this conversation? 🙂 Was thinking would be funny on blog.
Marcy:
Not in the least-I would be honored, and maybe we could get her new readers-and maybe she will read it and the next book will come out sooner!
Me:
nah… that ain’t gonna happen. I’ve already talked with her. We’re looking at a year. glum sigh. But I think it would amuse her. will probably write up for later this week or next.
End of conversation.
One author I regularly follow, one author who loves to leave people hanging. An author I love, period. Sigh. This waiting thing really sucks.
