Seriously. I’m not.
Where does this come from?
Well, from a number of places, but most recently, from here:
As a published author myself, I know what it takes to be a good writer.
A comment made over at Romantic Times blog by an anonymous commenter. Now, if you click through, read the comments. An author was referenced and please note…this isn’t about the author mentioned. It’s about the comment itself.
I’m sorry, but being published doesn’t make anybody an authority. It just doesn’t. If that’s your viewpoint…well, all being published makes you is arrogant.
Good writing can be very subjective. Mechanically, not so much. If the book is riddled with typos, plot holes and inconsistencies, eh, it’s going to be harder for somebody to enjoy it. But the books some people love like crack? I don’t. Does that mean they suck? No. It just means they don’t work for me. Books that I love? They haven’t worked for others. The mechanics of a well-written book might not be so subjective, But what makes a story enjoyable? That’s very subjective.
And claiming that “I’m published so I know something you plebians do not”? That doesn’t add any weight to whatever your opinion is. You might think so, but it really, really doesn’t.
