UTA: Closed…winner’s name to be posted shortly.
I promised I’d do a giveaway of this here on the blog. It’s slipped my mind…I blame it partly on feeling lousy and partly on being a ditz. O.o
You can always come home.
Second chances come a little harder.
Chase and Zoe were the high school golden couple. Football captain, cheerleader, prom royalty.
After graduation, though, Chase couldn’t resist the urge to experience life outside their small town. He didn’t exactly expect Zoe to wait twelve years for him, but now that he’s back, he finds some small part of him hoping she did.
It’s no big surprise she’s married. The kick in the face is she married his best friend.
Zoe was devastated when Chase left, but she’s filed those bittersweet memories under “Moved On”. She loves her life, and loves her husband. She has all she needs. And Chase keeps an honorable distance.
One cold, wet, miserable day, tragedy turns Zoe’s world upside down. Chase never expected her to simply fall into his arms, but a man can dream. Except his dream doesn’t include the fact that this time, she’s the one hitting the road…and he’s the one left behind.
So here’s your chance to win.
You might have guessed, this book is a bit of a tear-jerker. It’s got a happy-ending, I swear. But it’s…well, not exactly your typical romance, I don’t think.
It was actually a book I’d submitted elsewhere before Samhain and it was rejected-at first, revisions were requested, but I wouldn’t make some of the revisions, because it changed the book too much. So the end decision was the book would be too hard a sell as a romance.
I dunno…I guess we’ll see. Do you like atypical? Okay with one that’s off the beaten track? What’s the most unusual romance you’ve ever read? Tell me one. If you don’t have an atypical romance you can think of, then just tell me a book that’s stayed with you. I’ll draw a name from those comments (randomly) and that person gets the download.

UTA: If you don’t see your comment right away, don’t worry. I messed things up when I broke the blog and everything is being held in moderation. Ugh.
I don’t know about unusual but I have to say as a series the Liaden book series from Sharon Lee and Steve Miller has been one I have read the longest. I am not sure I would even call them romances though they certainly have romance. For some reason these really keep my focus and I am always waiting for the next book.
I pre-ordered it from Samhain last night and I can not wait to read it. I like unconventional, tear-jerky romances. I’m very glad that you stuck to your guns about this book.
I’m glad that you are feeling better, too.
I cannot remember the name of the author or the title of the book but it was unusual for me and stuck with me. I read it but because of my own sexual hang ups did not enjoy it. This woman was SO subservient to a male in ALL fashion. I could not relate to this at all. Felt horrible as the authors story was fantastic and well written – it was all me.
I think atypical romances tend to make for a more poignant story. One that has stuck with me is actually one of yours, well two of yours I guess. I love “Beautiful Girl” and “The Missing”. Both aren’t your typical romances, but it made the HEA that more memorable.
I have to say A Reluctant Dom was the mist atypical romance I have read to date and it absolutely changed me. It was such an emotional read, that I was literally wasted after reading. The journey the characters walked was so emotion driven that the reader had no choice but to accompany them.
Off hand I loved the romance in Iron Duke. And my romance with my hubby. Love to read emotion packed books.
I love atypical. Life rarely falls into the proscribed patterns and clear thinking that most romance books involve, and I find that those that are different usually strike a much stronger cord with me. The romance(s) from the StarDoc series are high on my list.
Hope you feel better soon!
It’s not a romance but I loved Megan Hart’s- Precious and Fragile Things. The book really tore at me because it was an emotional read because it made you care about 2 people you normally would condemn
Glad you held to your guns.
i think there are alot of books out there that don’t fit the mold so to speak and i’ve enjoyed alot of them. I’d love to try this one out for size. Please enter me.

Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander.
It’s more a humorous unusual, but Shelly Laurenston’s The Mane Squeeze is about Gwen and Lock– who is a Grizzly shifter– he loves honey, playing with his toes, and does this “thing” with his tongue that is unique to bears. It’s funny, but sexy too. I LOVED it!
I just loved Steve’s Story by Jess Dee. The heroine has a disease which will be fatal eventually. Jess still managed to write an amazing HFN story that stayed in my head for days. Very brave to write something different. Glad you stuck to your guns on this one. I just love it when you make my chest hurt LOL.
I’m not sure if it was just me but when I read your book “No Longer Mine”, I cried; it broke my heart just reading it. So to me that was an atypical romance.
My atypical romance would probably Anita Blake. She has a stead boyfriend but loves someone else and sleeps with everyone, even animals and bad guys….
Thanks!!
I like the occasional atypical romace, because life is not perfect. It also gives a break from the cookie cutter style of romance. After a while, it becomes the same story just with different names and places.
I also think it’s great that you didn’t let someone else change what you saw as the way the story should go.
Can’t wait until the release of A Forever Kind of Love.
Elizabeth
The one that has stuck with me is The Reluctant Dom…not your typical (in my mind anyway) and has stuck with me on an emotional level. Be sure to have tissues ready with this one too.
gigi
My favorite atypical romance is actually a fantasy book. Jacqueline Carey’s Kushiel’s series. The love story between Phedre and Jocelyn is gorgeous. Thanks for the giveaway.
I love Diana Gabaldon’s OUTLANDER series.
I love romances that are a bit different. One that sticks in my mind is Butterfly Tattoo by Deirdre Knight. Another one that I just read that was quite different was a self pubbed book called These Hellish Happenings by Jennifer Rainey. That was one where I was completely surprised by the romance that developed.
Hmm…I’ll have to go with what someone mentioned on Facebook and say “Shades of Twilight” by Linda Howard. I wouldn’t say that it is atypical, but my brain isn’t working tonight! 😉 this book has really stuck with me though. I’ll probably think of one later.
wow! Atyp. books that have stayed with me.
a trilogy set by Dominique Adair ‘Seducing Jane Porter’ is the 1st book.
an Alien romance ebook i’ve not read anything like it since… ‘Starkissed’ by Lanette Curington.
“The Dead-Tossed Waves” by Carrie Ryan is a post-apocalyptic YA romance of sorts. There are zombies and the heroine Gabry is torn between two boys. Of course, every time she’s ready to go forward with a guy, something bad happens to him. This is one reason I’ve given up post-apocalyptic books.
