Happy Valentine’s Day… or as I saw somebody posted on twitter (can’t remember who, sorry!) if you’re single…Happy Singles Awareness Day!
So…I did this once before and it was fun.
Let’s have a contest. What’s your most memorable Valentines memory? I’ve always had some pretty good Valentine’s Day. Good guy, good kids…I tend to buy presents for the kids, as well as him, since I’m completely in love with them and him.
Today I received a bottle of mango rum, some lovely red roses and some dark chocolate. #heart
I can’t think of any bad Valentine days. I’ve had good ones, but I think one of my favorites was when he had a dozen red roses sent to me when I was still working at the doctor’s office. It was a lovely, unexpected surprise-I’d never had flowers sent to me at work.
So what’s your most memorable? Good, bad, doesn’t matter. Just memorable. Post your experience. I’ll draw one name to receive a prize…not sure what because this is totally last minute. It might be a book, it might be a GC. Shoot, I might mix up an iTunes playlist of the music I’ve been listening to lately or I might hit my favorite candy store and send you some goodies.
So…cost of prize is yet to be determined. Void where prohibited. Open across the globe. Do not post to sweepstakes sites. Odds of winning depend on number of entries. Winner will be posted here as means of notification, probably by the end of the week, meaning you have to check back to see if you’ve won. I do not email the winners. Read my disclaimer for the rest of the rules. **FYI, entering means you’ve read it and agree to it.
Now…what’s your most memorable Valentine memory?
My most memorable would be when my 4 yr kindergartener asked me who was my Valentine oasis why you are sweetie. Later that day while loading kids into truck he came up and handed me a bouquet of fresh picked flowers it doesn’t get better then that
The one I remember the most was very simple. My husband brought me flowers and a bottle of wine and we just stayed in together and watched TV. I am pretty low maintenance with stuff like that and I was happy he knew that that was all I wanted 🙂
My most memorable Valentine’s memory is from a few years ago, when my youngest daughter was 2. I started hinting to my husband that I sure would like to have a boy since both of our daughters were definitely “Daddy’s Girls”. On Valentine’s Day he brought home a big, squirmy ball of black Lab puppy and told me “Here’s your boy!” I’m home alone with my “boy” right now, getting ready to walk in the woods. Instead of chocolates and flowers, I get to play in the snow and get lots of sloppy kisses…I love it! :0 )
I was 7 months pregnant; it was our second Valentine’s Day together. He called me at work, because he forgot my present at his mom’s house, and when he got it and tried to drive back to the apartment, his car stalled and wouldn’t restart on Route 80. I had to leave work early to go pick him up. But the chicken parm. he made for dinner that night was excellent.
Here’s mine. Too long to post it here so I’m linking it.
It’s was one Valentine’s day that I gave all the single people living my house a secret admirer Valentine and the fun and mystery that occurred as everyone tried to figure out who it was.

My favorite Valentine is when my mother took my daughter to the store when she was ten to pick out my Valentine’s gift. My daughter came home with this gorgeous heart shaped MOM necklace. I cried because she said that now I would always carry her heart with me..
Then my mom gave me a Valentine’s.. it was a pair of Scooby PJs…LOL
Needless to say they so know me…
One of the memorable ones was a while ago. A couple of my friends and I were single for Valentine’s Day. We were going to just ignore the holiday, but instead we hit a local bar with a pool table. We had a lot of fun just hanging out & playing pool. Everybody in the place was having a good time and it was a great way to celebrate.
My most memorable was when Valentine’s Day was on a Saturday. Everyone at the office I worked at was getting roses on the Friday before, which happened to be Friday the 13th. The guy I was dating sent me flowers (no roses) and the card read Happy Friday the 13th. I loved that so much better than roses for Valentine’s Day.
My favorite was in college. We had been dating a month and he gave me a necklace and a huge teddy bear. We were engaged less than two months later.
I wouldn’t say it is my worst but last year’s Valentine’s Day was my saddest. It was the day my ex-husband and I finally decided to get divorced. It was obvious to us both that we needed to do it. This is my first V-day as a single gal and I know it will be more fun than last year.
Mine would be when my now 23 yr old was in 1st grade and he asked me to take him shopping at Revco (now CVS). I took him up to the corner and he pulled out all his savings to buy those huge KISS lips to give to a girl in his class. He was so proud of himself because he was doing it all on his own. The little love birds actually stayed close friends.
My husband proposed on Valentine’s Day!
My favorite VDay… my Mom and son got me 2 pendants… my Son picked out a skull and crossbones with black diamonds… and my Mom got me a key with white diamonds… love them both!!! Although I have to admit I wear the skull pendant more!!! 😀
My best memory is probably from college. My girlfriends and I were all single so we celebrated Singles Awareness Day by dressing up, but all in black, and going out for dinner, then in with a movie and snacks for the rest of the evening. I love having a sweetie now, but those were some really fun times!
My best Valentine’s memory was when my oldest daughter was in kindergarten and she came home from school and had made me a Valentine’s Day candle at school. It was just a simple candle in a glass with different colored tissue paper(gift wrap) glued to the sides. She was so happy with the gift and it brought tears to my eyes(It still does just typing this). I still have it and love it just as much as I did when I first received it!
I have had 27 years of great Valentine’s but this year will be the most “memorable” because my Valentine passed away in October. I thank God for all my family and friends who are trying to make today special for me.
Oh whew- haha. When I clicked over there were exactly 14 comments, and I was going to be like “feels wrong to ‘ruin’/add on to that…” but I’m good now. <– OCPD
Anyway – a Valentine's memory… I've never made much of a deal out of it. Nobody in my family does either. I've also generally been a singleton on this holiday. So no major romantic gestures etc…
But one year in college, all the girls were like "well whatever" and decided to have girl time. No boys allowed, whether they were a boyfriend/fiance/spouse or whatever. And "even" the taken girls joined in. Roses for each other, and just hanging out and having fun. A unique, and low key, yet memorable Valentine's. 🙂
My favorite one? They pretty well are all special I feel if he remembers it!!! Just kidding. The very first one we were together Hubby bought me these cutest little twins bears attached by their hands with velcro and kissing along with some chocolates. My daughter now has them and I hope when she has little ones she will pass them on.
Nothing extraordinary, but I was surprised with a nice dinner and we had dessert at home with champagne. I also got a bouquet of flowers.
One of my favs was over 17 years ago…yeah I know sooo long ago. It was when I was dating my now husband and he had me come over his house to make me dinner. Candle light, Beef Wellington, hand dipped chocolate covered strawberries and cherries(yum). But that was not what blew my mind away. It was when he came up to me and said “They say if you love some one to give them a single rose.” He gave me the rose told me he loved me (for the first time mind you). Then he said “But one rose is not enough, so here are the other 11” We have been married for 17 years and he still does the hand dipped sweets and flowers, but for some reason that first time allways makes me have the warm fuzzies!! 🙂
my most memorable one was the day i met my husband. we had met online and were talking for quite a while when one day I asked him what he was doing for Valentines. He said “nothing, I guess”. I responded with “so you’re free to come and pick me up at the airport then?”… dead silence and then “seriously? yes of course! just tell me when and where. I’ll be there”. I had never flown before, much less left the country so suffice to say I shocked him – and myself. We met face to face for the first time on St. V’s day. We hit it right off like we had always known each other. Our tenth anniversary is coming up.
I also had roses delivered to my work, but my hubby had to make it crazy, and had them delivered by a guy in a gorilla suit, lol . It was my first week at this new job, and what a commotion it was. Lots of laughter, and a fabulous way to make new friends.
Hope today is special, no matter how you celebrate.

The guy I was dating at the time sent me a dozen of the dark red roses. Not really memorable in and of itself, but it became VERY memorable when after lifting them out of the box, and digging under the tissue paper for the card he’d included, and finding the receipt.
He’d sent the same order to his previous girlfriend, who had just been accusing me of stealing him from her.
Last I heard about both of them? They were married.
Later,
Lynn, who is hoping everyone has a better Valentine’s than that was!!
My memory is being asked to get married. He took me to a bookstore and at the shelves knelt down and asked and placed the ring on my finger. I had no idea, it was a suprise…although it was not a suprise that we didn’t marry because he cheated.
Chocolate and flowers are still wonderful although cards and notes are great and can be keepsakes (too bad I never dated a guy with decent penmanship).
My most memorable Valentine memories have been when I have received flowers from my father. I’m a Daddy’s Girl and he’s been there for me through the good times and the bad. It means so much to me to know that he’s thinking of me.
One of my most memorable V’days would be one year when I was in my mid 20’s, I was on bed rest due to blood clots. My sister and her children came over to spend some time and we were all piled up on a pullout sofa, watching movies and eating popcorn. It really helped to pass the time. My family was great to help, even making sure I always had lots of books to read *G*
OK maybe TMI. It was actually 23 years ago today. I’d been ill for a week or more & not feeling very romantic although we’d been trying to conceive. I checked my temperature that morning & thought maybe we should make an effort lol. I was still feeling yucky for another week and a half with no action so I know that’s when our son was conceived. When he was old enough we liked to wish him Happy Conception Day just to hear him say eeeewwww!! lol
I love getting Valentine’s cards from my kids. My daughter has made me a couple that I still have filed away for a rainy day.
I had been hinting for years I wanted flowers at work to no avail. Then three years ago the hubby ordered them but they never came. It was a major mess up with the flower shop. Well I figured that was it he wouldn’t send anything to work again. So last year I unexpectedly received chocolate covered strawberries from Shari’s Berries. I was so surprised and they were awesome. But the best part was that the next day I received flowers. He ordered a two day surprise. I love my hubby.
When we were young, my Dad always bought a box of candy for us. When times were tough, he would buy one box for all of us to share. During better times, we each got our own heart shaped box of candy. We never really liked all the chocolates in the box, but we were so excited to get it. I have two brothers and a sister and we all remember our Valentine’s Day chocolates.
My most memorable Valentine Day was when my now 25 yr old daughter was about 5. She got her candy and card from mommy and then cried because I didn’t get a card. She went and made me a card so I wouldn’t be sad. She is still sweet and kind and worries about others first.
Last year my boyfriend sent me 2 boxes of pretty lingerie from Victoria’s Secret. There was a big box full of bras & panties & then a smaller box with a card that said, “Where this tonight with heels.” In the box was a sexy lace teddy & matching thong. It was a pretty hot night!
