Bears & Blades, Blades & Bears

It’s all the Bs this months, y’all. And hey, it’s spooky season, so we can toss in some boos, too.

Okay, so, a couple of things… I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this but over the …oh, six months, I’ve had some…we’ll say revelations. One of them involves me coming to grips with the fact that I’m autistic. No, I’m needing advice, pats on the back, etc, etc, etc. My doctor and I have talked, I’m talking to a counselor, etc. It is what it is and for women my age (48), it’s not uncommon for a diagnosis to happen at this point in time. When I was a kid, doctors mostly didn’t ‘see’ how differently autism presented in kids who presented as female as opposed to those who presented as male. We ‘tend’ to be quieter, lost in books and other things–I don’t want to generalize, because that’s not what this post is about.

BUT… as I’m learning more about why certain things always worked for me while other things never did, I’m trying to develop habits, etc.

One of them????

That space is in the widget area where it says SUBSCRIBE. Or… maybe…here, too. Hey, it worked.

BLADE’S END, the final book in the Kit Colbana series is up for pre-order.

The blurb:

Blade’s End
It’s all coming to a bitter end

Kit and her lover, Damon, the Alpha of the Southern Cat Clans, are hot on the trail of Madae, an ancient entity that has haunted Kit’s people through the ages. Kit was supposed to be the next target, but she proved to be tougher than Madae expected.

As both an act of revenge and expediency, Madae went for the next nearest of kin…Kit’s cousin, Doyle.

Earth-shattering truths are revealed and secrets laid bare, including secrets that threaten the love between Kit and Damon, and their very lives.

They’re determined to find Madae and save Doyle.

But will those secrets drive them apart?

Will those secrets drive them mad?

And when they find themselves confronting not one ancient evil, but two, will Kit and Damon be strong enough to save Doyle?
Or will one of them pay the ultimate price?

Author Note: It’s recommended you read the short story CHANG before reading BLADE’S END

Super short snippet:

“She’s the one who took possession of my grandmother,” Kit said woodenly. Her eyes had a glassy sheen to them and she stared at nothing. “Lemera…Damon, Lemera…her true name is Lemeraties. She lived back when the Roman Empire was still going strong. The name of her queen was Madae—and it’s possible some…entity possessed Madae during Lemeraties’s lifetime or shortly before.”

“I think it’s more than possible,” Chang said quietly.

I whipped my head around and stared at him, hard.

He lifted a brow. “I’m almost certain she’s one of Azazel’s offspring—Azazel is the very last of the Deathless, Damon. I’ve been hunting him for nearly as long as I’ve been alive. But that isn’t what I need to tell you.”

The end of an era, for me

Finishing up this last Kit book has been bittersweet. I started the series in 2012, if I remember correctly. I never expected readers to love it as much as they did.

No, it hasn’t been as popular as books out there, but it’s been one of my most popular and I know it’s meant a lot to many people. I know that, because many of you have told me. Kit has meant a lot to me. While I haven’t experienced nowhere the level of trauma she has, there are correlations between us that I can’t deny.

That’s why, after I lost my brother, I couldn’t write any of her stories for a while. She cut too deep. But, hey, that’s Kit. Always good with a blade.

Writing a series and publishing it independently can be a gamble. If you don’t make some money on it, unless you’re independently wealthy, or at least a lot better off than most authors, me, included, just isn’t something you can keep doing.

But my Kit readers have been so supportive. And you proved that again and again, through your patience, by supporting me through my Patreon, through your emails, and through backing the special edition of Blade Song I released on Kickstarter in July. WOW. The support for that was phenomenal.

You all have been so wonderful during this journey with Kit. Thank you. Truly. From the bottom of my heart.

It’s not always possible for an author to finish a series, especially a long-standing one, the way we want to, but because of your support, I was able to tell Kit’s story on my own terms. And I’m forever grateful.

BUT… FYI … don’t think I’m done with UF

AS IF.

I have other ideas floating around in my head, but for the time being, due to other projects, some are on the back burner.

However, one will be a subscriber-exclusive for my Patreon members. I’m in the process of updating how memberships tiers there work, because, hey, Apple is greedy and wants 30% of the take, regardless and it’s forcing changes on Patreon, and therefore, creators, but if you want to join in, now is the time. The new journey starts in January.

We covered the blades. We covered the blurb. We covered the Patreon. Oh, right.
